TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY AND WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING.

I'm married to Julie, celebrating our 45th anniversary this June. We have three adult kids. Ben lives in Oakland, CA and our two girls live in Durham. I work with Bridges International and spend most of my time coaching other Bridges and CRU staff around the country. I also have the privilege of ministering to international students at Duke.

HOW DID YOU BECOME A FOLLOWER OF CHRIST?

During my junior year in high school, a group of lay witness evangelists visited our church in Beaufort, NC, sharing their testimonies and encouraging all who didn't know God to simply pray something like this, "God, if you're real, I want to know you." I prayed that prayer that night and I believe that was the beginning of the adventure of knowing God personally. That was the first time I had heard that God could be known personally.

My senior year of high school I was invited to a gospel of John Bible study, which explained more to me about this new relationship with Jesus.

My freshman year at UNC, a Campus Crusade for Christ student knocked on my door, inviting me to their Friday night weekly meeting. It was at those meetings and small group Bible studies where I more clearly learned about the gospel message, and I even began sharing this good news with others in my dorm.

HOW DO YOU HOPE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE MISSION OF CHBC?

God has given me a shepherd's heart and the gift of encouragement. My desire is to care for others at CHBC - to provide shepherding and encouragement.
